1. Be cordial

It is important to remain polite and respectful, especially to the staff of the senator you may be engaging. Thank them for their time and respect them as a person. Getting animated or yelling, simply shuts individuals down.

2. Be confident

Believe in yourself and what you are doing. The first few times you call it might be intimidating, but over time you realize how simple it really is.

3. Be informed

Do Not Assume anything about bills or legislation. You should do a bit of research reading and understanding the content of the bill. Don't be afraid to ask clarifying questions, because often times, a senator may have missed something as well.
